Advice From a Gold Miner

Pure Gold, A Lesson in Love, Part I

Make new friends,
And keep the old,
These are Silver,
Those are Gold.

Is a saying my Mom taught me,
Many years before,
Now I know what it means,
When I lost my love, in 2004.

Like a miner panning for gold,
And using his rusty old pan,
He finds a little sparkle,
And removes it with his hand.

Proudly, he holds it,
With a smile on his face,
A moment he’ll cherish,
Which no one can erase.

I was once like him,
When I held my girlfriend’s hand,
A smile put on my face,
That stretched across the land.

The miner would clean it,
And wash off the grime,
As he held his beauty,
Priceless, throughout all time.

He would hide and secure it,
This expensive little gem,
Hiding it from his enemy,
Who, would like to steal it from him.
