This is such a beautiful touching story. I once had a boss like that, on who would work the Major Holidays. I have worked my fair share of them. Their reasoning was, your kids are grown. Well, that one was a hard one for me to ignore.
Either way, I I missed my share of holidays with my, then and now, grown family.
I loved how you worked those nights, and coming back to work a week early as you said, "...I had three boys to feed." That reminded me of all the sacrifices my Mom made for me and my siblings. It was such an honor when I got my first job at 16, to stop by a grocery and pick up food for my Mom, so she would not have to cook for us.
I am sure your three boys will never forget the sacrifices you made for them.
