lol, I wish they could build them to last as well. I remember some years ago a teacher friend of mine came to work one day complaining about everything... She was mad because her brand new house she had built 10 years ago, she said all the appliances were dying off one by one. She called her kitchen and her washroom the nursing home. Now arter her story, and your story, it has been 8 years since I remodeled my kitchen and washroom with new appliances when I retired...

On the toilet, I bought a toilet because the add said it could flush like 60 golf balls or something like that... That turne out to be a nightmare toilet, it never worked. The kitchen faucet, was a touchless facelet. You just wave your hand under the facuet... That quit working, I was there when they replaced it. When the plumber took it out, it look like the guts of R2D2. It had hoses, electrical wires, and even a battery pack... Nope, I just want on and off, hot and cold...

Maybe your Amish conversion, is not a bad idea, lol.
