Introduction

This was just a fun poem for me to write. I really enjoyed it. I think I had been watching maybe too many World War II documentaries on television.

It was fun to write about having a wingman, someone you can trust, and you know they will give their life for you in battle. It is very similar to that in Law Enforcement work also. I think that is the real underlining reason why I liked this poem so much.

At the End of the Poem

At the end of this poem, I wrote about the meeting of Pilot Lee and his Wingman Ricks bride to be. That meeting was back in the United States, Texas to be exact, after Rick’s untimely death.

The meeting was to be with Lee and Ricks bride to be, to give her Ricks metals, and to offer her, Lee’s support.

A Thing Called Fate Happens

However, something called “Fate” happened. It was hard for me to put myself in that role, because that had to be a precarious position for both of them. On one hand you are comforting her for the loss of her husband to be, and also the loss of your best friend. Then there is that, “on the other hand”, you and your Wingman, your best friends wife, both fall in love.
