Camping In The Backyard:
Camping in the back yard, was one of Dawn Ulmer’s choices. When my son was in grade school, he was also in the Cub Scouts. To earn a certain Merit Badge, he had to go camping, sleep outside, cook a meal, start a fire, all those sorts of things.
That is not exactly what happened. My son and me, et up the tent, in our back yard, in northwest Louisiana. There were some woods just behind our back yard. To be more precise, we lived in a very wooded area of our Parish, in northern Louisiana.
The tent was up, now time to set up the cots and sleeping bags inside the tent. My son was doing a great job, setting up the tent, and earning that Merit Badge. He was getting close now. What could possibly get in his way?
He started a fire and cooked us a hamburger. Dad, can I go inside the house and toast us some bread? Nope, Sorry Son, all the cooking has to be done outside.
