Hello Class,

When I start my college classes off on Monday mornings, I always open the assignments with “Hello Class.” Writing that opener here in Medium by habit just now made me laugh. Too late to change now, so let’s begin class.

Last night I read a poem that was definitely, one of the best poems I have read all year. Trust me, as a poet myself, I have read a lot of poems this past year. It is always hard for me to claim one poem as the best, because I have read so many of your great poems.

This poem caught my eye and my attention, among other things, because of the format. Before each verse, TzeLin Sam would use three descriptive words, which would get the reader ready for the next verse.

This poem was so well crafted, and I really enjoyed it. TzeLin Sam is a gifted writer with a list of interesting articles.

She also has a way of challenging us, to write poems in different styles. Two of those writing styles included a: haiku and a landy poem. It was quite fun and challenging to write poems in different styles.
