What are You Doing to Prioritize Self-Care?

I enjoyed this writing prompt from Refresh the Soul.

As sit here and read another great article and writing prompt from Nancy Blackman, MASF, on self-care, it does make me wonder. What am I doing for my self-care? Then after reading an article from a great Medium writer, Pamela Oglesby, it dawned on me.

In Pamela’s article, she wrote, “she has an accountability partner to keep her in check. Brilliant!”

That is brilliant

Thanks for your article, Pamela. It all made perfect sense to me. What I am doing for my self-care is actually what I am doing for my stepdad’s self-care. The word Pamela used that made me think this way was her use of the word accountability.

Me? I can do a number of things for my self-care, except sitting in my recliner. That’s a story for another day. But seriously, I am accountable for my stepdad. I am his power of attorney, and he is in a nursing home.

My self-care is knowing I am doing everything I can, so he can rest in a nursing home without any outside interference.

When I walk into his room, it makes him smile and happy. And that is about all he can do right now. He is in a wheelchair, and…
