This has been a great challenge, which has “challenged” us writers who are engaged in this 30- Day Challenge.

The good news is that we are now passed the halfway mark. Thank you again, Nancy Blackman, for this opportunity.

Challenge #16 — What writers inspire you and why?

For me to answer this question I have to first go back to my freshman days in college. I entered college with a major in Journalism, so of course, I had to take my share of English and Creative Writing courses.

I will never forget one day when I went into my English class. The teacher said to turn to page ___ in your book and let’s read the poem “The Raven” by Edward Allen Poe.

Ok, ho hum, here we go

I was never more surprised in my life. As we read the poem my eyes lit up. I could really understand and relate to the poem.

How could I have never heard of this poem or of Edward Allen Poe, for that matter?

The poem went by too fast. As the teacher asked questions about the poem, I (the shy one) answered her questions as fast…
