Wow.... WOW.... First let me say, it has been a long time since a story or article, grabbed me like this story of yours did.

I too had some deep dark issues about making friends, becasue I lost s many growing up. The first friend I lost went to Hawaii when I was about 10, You realize real quick, this is permanent. This was way before computers, cell phones, emails, or any kind of communication other than an expensive phone call. I lost some to risky decisions I did not want any part of, some changed schools, one wanted me to loose my brother (the Cop) if I was to be his friend. That was NEVER going to happen! However, my best friend since 3rd grade lived about 5 minutes from me, and we will alway be friends / BROTHERS.

Your story brought back a lot of those issues, and I am glad it did. It makes me feel blessed, that that one friend, has been my Brother since 3rd grade. In fact we meet after his Mom had all ready paased in 1st grade so he helped me with the passing of my Dad in 3rd grade.
