Write a poem or short story about 9/11, and how it affected you.
This is Day 11 of Refresh the Soul’s 30-Day Challenge.
When 911 happened, I knew we were in a new era of history. I had no idea how far and how long this fight against terrorism was going to take. Some of the brave people I worked with were immediately deployed for training or to unknown points around the world.
The destruction and the death toll of that day in New York City on September 11, 2001, were horrific. I can still see the images of the two planes flying into the Twin Towers in my mind today.
The destruction also covered The Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, close to Washington D.C., and also a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
I have never visited New York City, but that day affected me so much that I now want to visit New York City to pay my respect at the site of the Twin Towers.
Until then, I will pay my respect with this poem, titled: The day I Met Terror.
The Day I Met Terror:
I was driving to work
And on the radio, I heard
A disaster in New York
Had just occurred.
